Values Discovery

Journey of Self Discovery – Understanding Values & Beliefs

Why are your values so important to discover?

They create a compass for your future, if they are set-up wrong then your decisions and behaviours could be destructive to your goals.

When you become consciously aware of your values you are able to see if your values and beliefs have been supporting your life or blocking your success.

Values are created at unconscious level, they are created by key influencers in our lives (Parents, Teachers, Friends, general populous etc). We create a series of beliefs consciously which then supports those values.

Understanding what you value and why that value is present is critical so you can  understand how you have been making decisions.

Your values

Different contexts in your life will demonstrate different values and their  importance.

For example your values for work will be different to the values for a personal relationship.

Example of values in life:

The Goal: Susan wants to lose weight.

She has defined through goal setting that, one of her actions is to go to the gym.
However, she followed every agreed action except going to the gym.

We then discovered that due to her weight problem she has associated a negative value “humiliation” to walking into a gym.

Her internal perception and beliefs have blocked her from achieving her goal value of
“… a healthy life“.

The goal is to now remove that negative value “humiliation” and free her to succeed.

Moving towards and away from values and beliefs are at play in all of us every day.

Is there a possibility that you are being held back? Are you achieving your goals?
