Couples dynamic: Does yours work?

How couples behave in their relationship will have a significant affect on how they feel about each other and themselves, so it’s important to get this right.

Couples can find that over time their dynamic can change and this has critical consequences for the couple leaving them with a hidden challenge and several presenting problems as a result.

These presenting problems could be arguments, depression, constant tiredness, loss of energy, loss of passion, desire to get out of the relationship. This means the couple will struggle and suffer as they try to cope with each other.

An example:

Lets imagine a couple are focused on love, passion and adventure, it’s an amazing start to the relationship. So good in fact they decide to get married and have children.

Life has now gone from carefree to one of responsibilities.

She has noticed that her carefree attitude has shifted, now she is a wife and a mum and she needs to feel secure and protected.

If her husband doesn’t know how to help her feel secure she will create behaviours he won’t understand. In reaction he too will shift his focus from love, freedom and passion, to protecting himself from her perceived attacks. This ping-pong of protection affects core foundations in the relationship as the trust dies.

The dynamic has now shifted and so has their core identities. They are now both feeling bad because they don’t understand each other, they have lost a sense of themselves and now the relationship doesn’t meet their changing needs.

She used to love his carefree attitude, but now she hates it and he can’t work out where the woman he married has gone and he now feels cheated.

What’s important to know is the dynamic that connected these two people has not died at all it is just hidden behind their protective behaviours.

If you have lost the dynamic in your relationship it can be reconnected through easy steps.
